Whether you're a digital nomad or just want to write that novel while enjoying the sun, bringing a laptop with you on vacation can be a breeze. Here's what to look for in a slim, light laptop.
Start with the size you want. Generally, this brand of laptops will have roughly the same types of low-power processors and same amount of RAM and storage, so size will be what matters most. Slim laptops will generally top out at around 15.6", which is ideal for catching up on a show before you go to bed or playing some games. But a smaller size, such as the 11.6", will give you more than enough room for the basics, like getting directions and checking email, while being easier to slip into a carry-on and use at the airport.
Next, check the connectors, both what it comes with and how many it has. Look for a computer that can easily connect to the devices you already have, such as your phone and your camera. It'll make backing everything up much easier, and it can also serve as a charger if you've got a limited number of outlets.
Check for interesting and useful features. Since they all serve the same purpose and largely use the same parts, it's the little things that can make a slim laptop stand out. Features like back-lit keyboards for easier typing, 180-degree hinges to lay it flat so everyone can view what's on the screen, and HDMI ports for connecting to TVs can turn a laptop from handy to indispensable.
