The Best Laptops For Solo Travelers
When work meets play, bring the device that does a little for column A and a little for column B.
Laptops are handy to have on any trip, but when you're heading out solo, they're particularly important. They can amuse you, keep in touch with friends, help you organize and store your data, and give you games to play on the airplane. Here are five ideal travel sidekicks.
Start with the physical characteristics of your laptop. Ideal travel laptop are thin and light, which will both make them easy to pack and keep some weight off your shoulders when you're running for a flight.
Ask yourself how big a screen you need. Smaller screens, usually 11.4″, will be easier to manage and pack, but while 15″ screens may be a bit less manageable, they're roomier and easier to see.
Pick a laptop with an operating system you're comfortable with. If you're a Mac fan at home, bring one on the road; that way you're not figuring out shortcuts and downloading programs at the airport.
If you're mostly going to be sending emails and uploading photos, look at a "lighter" laptop such as a Chromebook. These boot quickly, have long battery life, and can get vacation-related tasks done while you're off enjoying yourself.
Finally, consider the built-in features that make it easier to use. Back-lit keyboards, enough USB ports for all your gadgets, a bright screen, all of these will make your solo trip much easier.
