Located in the East Bay, Walnut Creek, California, offers its visitors an urban getaway with great shopping and easy access to incredible wilderness.
Its open-air shopping mall, Broadway Plaza, is filled with stores like Lululemon, while the Maker's Mercantile is great for vintage pieces and handmade work by local artisans.
There are craft and art fairs year-round, like the Bedford Gallery Craft Fest at the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown and the Art & Wine Festival in Heather Farm Park.
If you're looking for an outdoor adventure, the nearby Mount Diablo State Park offers 20,000 acres to explore. From Mount Diablo, you can see various California landmarks.
You can drive the windy road to the top of Mount Diablo. Depending on your route, you can also hike between 11 to 14 miles round-trip to reach the top.
Other outdoor adventures here include rock climbing and lots of horseback riding options. Visitors can also camp at one of the three campsites.
