Why Cruising Your Way Through Santorini, Greece, Isn't A Good Idea

VACATIONS

If you're visiting Santorini, Greece, a cruise ship is probably the worst way to get there. Not only will the experience be worse, but the island might be skipped by your captain.
Cruise ships bring in around 17,000 passengers a day to Santorini, and the overcrowding is so bad that some cruise lines are canceling planned stops.
With only a relatively short time during a stop on the island, cruisers overwhelm the main tourist areas, ruining a romantic Grecian sunset with crowds and congestion.
You can avoid some of the crowds by visiting Santorini from a different route, like a ferry from another spot or a plane trip that doesn't land at the crowded port of Oia.
If you're concerned by the crowds, Santorini might not be the best choice anyway. Instead, visit the gorgeous and quieter island, Alonissos, or even the Puglia region of Italy.
