VACATIONS
The little town of Burien in Washington is an underrated foodie destination that can take you around the world without leaving the U.S. for one of Seattle's best island escapes.
Some of Seattle's favorite restaurants have opened second or third locations in Burien — for example, Smarty Pants pub and Stevie's Famous of Beacon Hill.
Mexican food is one of Burien's specialties. Standouts include El Cabrito’s Oaxaca-style dishes and handmade tortillas and Centro Neighborhood Kitchen’s vegetarian tacos.
Dukem Restaurant and Market offers homestyle Ethiopian food served on injera bread. Fireside Burien serves German pretzels and a dinner menu inspired by a 1950s steakhouse.
Good old American comfort food is also served with a foodie panache in Burien. For your morning caffeine fix, pick up your good coffee at Burien Press, open seven days a week.
