VACATIONS

Syros Island, the capital of the Greek Cyclades group, is an underrated and less crowded vacation spot that closely resembles Italy with its vibrant, neoclassical architecture.
Unlike many Greek islands with whitewashed houses, Ermoupolis, the main city, is full of color. It has St. Nicholas' Church and the Apollo Theater, which rivals Milan's La Scala.
Ano Syros, the upper part of Ermoupolis, showcases the island's significant Catholic culture with colorful medieval alleys and streets built by the Venetians in the 13th century.
Visitors can also explore St. George's Cathedral at Agios Georgios, a famous Catholic church set on a spot that has seen churches since the first Byzantine one in the 8th century.
Other must-see places include graffiti from shipwrecked sailors at Grammata Bay, the Town Hall designed by German architect Franz Ziller, and the Syros Archaeological Museum.
Syros also offers picturesque beaches that rival Italy's coastal areas, with clear waters and family-friendly spots like Galissas Beach, Kini Beach, and Delfini Beach.
