VACATIONS

The Amalfi coast in Italy has beautiful beaches, but it can be crowded and very expensive. If you want a gorgeous alternative with fewer tourists, check out Cefalù.
Cefalù is located on the northwest coast of the island of Sicily and is easy to get to from Palermo. Budget Your Trip says the average cost for a week-long stay is around $893.
The train ride from Palermo is around $8 each way and takes only 50 minutes; it's just a 10-minute walk into town. You can even drive and park on the Lungomara Giuseppe Giardina.
The town has plenty of places to walk around, but the Piazza Duomo is where you can sit down, eat, and enjoy the views of the Moorish-style cathedral, built in 1131 C.E.
Cefalù Beach is popular, pretty, and free, but during high season, beach chairs and umbrellas can cost up to $40. It has golden sand and calm water, so it's a great place to swim.
