This Florida Sandbar Island Is A Haven For Fun Water Activities

Crab Island in Choctawhatchee Bay in Destin, Florida is a sandbar surrounded by water that's typically not more than a few feet deep, making it perfect for all kinds of water fun.
You can only get to Crab Island by boat. Destin outfitters will help get you there on anything from rented pontoon boats with waterslides to chartered tiki floating bars.
At this ocean playground, you can snorkel and swim, relax on an inflatable, or enjoy a picnic in waist-deep water. The emerald and turquoise water is the clearest around high tide.
Vendors sell food and drinks from floating platforms. You can also enjoy an adult beverage, but you’ll have to bring it yourself since alcohol isn't for sale on the sandbar.
Remember to drink water and bring sunscreen since there’s basically no shade, and be prepared to pay cash. The area’s high season is from May to August.
