Rick Steves Praises This Swedish Island Getaway For Unmatched Scenery
By Jenna Busch

VACATIONS

For an unmatched scenic getaway, travel guru Rick Steves highly recommends Svartsö, a Swedish island in the Stockholm archipelago that is five miles long and less than a mile wide.
This green island is home to
only about 80 permanent residents and offers an idyllic escape with
days that provide more than 18
hours of sunlight during the
summer solstice.
Steves says on his website, "Renting a bike is a fine way to see the island. Within moments you're out in the countryside, immersed in pastoral farmland and pristine nature."
From late May until October, the island enjoys mild summer temperatures ranging from the 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, making it perfect for biking, hiking, and swimming in its lakes.
For dining, Steves recommends Svartsö Krog, renowned for using local ingredients, or eco-friendly Bistro Sågen, which allows visitors to take their adorable goats for a walk.
