Mosquitoes love warm tropical weather just as much as people do, so during balmy summer months like July, August, and September, Florida is in peak mosquito season.
The itchy red welts are reason enough to avoid Florida in peak mosquito season, but the bugs also carry diseases like dengue fever, Zika, West Nile, and St. Louis encephalitis.
While the worst time to be in Florida is typically July through September, climate change is making mosquitoes a bigger problem for a longer period of time.
In July 2023, the Florida Department of Health said that mosquito numbers were at an all-time high, and the news station WESH2 said that mosquito season could last into December.
