Hawaii's Kaka'ako Is Paradise For Food Lovers And Shoppers

By Kristin Conard

VACATIONS

Kaka'ako is a delightful, growing community just outside of Waikiki. While it used to be fishing grounds, the area has become a thriving commercial and residential destination.
Murals dot the neighborhood, and the shopping malls feature fresh, inventive food and locally owned boutiques. On Saturday mornings near the harbor, there's a great farmers market.
Have breakfast at Cafe Villamor, a cute coffee shop that serves seasonal drinks. For lunch, visit Butcher & Bird for some meat and Lin's Hawaiian Snacks for shaved ice.
For dinner, visit Merriman's Honolulu, Chef Peter Merriman's first Oahu restaurant. To close out your night, The Social Honolulu in Ward's South Shore Market has fun cocktails.
The South Shore Market in Ward Village has big-box retailers and smaller boutiques. "always a.line" has flowy, stylish clothing, while Salvage Public has surfing-inspired looks.
You can find products from local artists and entrepreneurs at MORI by Art+Flea and House of Mana Up. After shopping, stay at the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel & Spa.
