VACATIONS
With more people visiting national parks, the lines for the most popular destinations have dramatically increased. However, there are other places to enjoy the outdoors.
One such place is Franklin Mountains State Park in Texas. This underrated Texas state park is like a smaller Guadalupe Mountains National Park but without the crowds.
The state park is located within the city limits of El Paso, Texas, whereas Guadalupe Mountains is almost a 2-hour drive away from El Paso International Airport.
While Franklin Mountains is smaller, it's packed with landscapes similar to those of Guadalupe Mountains and Big Bend National Park. It also boasts 100-plus miles worth of trails.
Unlike Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains, Franklin Mountains allows mountain biking on trails within the park. There are also several other outdoor activities to enjoy in the park.
Visitors can head to McKelligon Canyon or Sneed's Cory to climb the towering rock walls. Additionally, the park includes a few primitive camping sites and RV sites.
