Be Cautious When Visiting This Popular, But Dangerous Florida Beach

A widely shared ranking published by Travel Lens in 2023 identified Florida's Ormond Beach as one of the deadliest beaches in the United States.
The original ranking that gave Ormond its lethal association considered the number of surf zone fatalities, shark attacks, and hurricanes that have occurred there.
Ormond has seen its share of fatalities. For example, a child drowned while visiting the beach with his grandparents in 2020, possibly due to getting caught in a rip current.
However, there are several factors that Travel Lens does not appear to have considered, including water quality, the presence of lifeguards, and the ratio of incidents to visitors.
