Black Bayou Lake
This Louisiana lake's swampy area is home to a resident population of American alligators. While you can take to the water by boat or kayak, it's at your own risk.
Across this Texas park, there are about 250 alligators, many of which can be found at Elm Lake and 40-acre Lake. They are especially active in spring and fall.
This is the only natural lake in Texas and is known for alligator sightings. While swimming is allowed in the park, it's dangerous, especially around sunrise and sunset.
In late 2023, 30 gators were spotted relaxing by Georgia's Chattahoochee RiverWalk. According to an official, sightings like this could be expected on the river.
As a Tripadvisor user said of this waterway: "Big Florida lake — lots of gators. Lots of snakes. Didn't go in the water." Gators here have been almost 14 feet long.
