Grenada: Spice Isle Suds
Washing your mouth out with soap might not be such a harsh punishment anymore, thanks to nutmeg soap from Arawak Islands Ltd. The Grenada-based company began by producing perfumes in 1986. But the products — all made from locally grown spices — were so popular, it soon expanded its line to include soaps, body oils, insect repellents and incense. Look for 100-percent-natural items, such as clove-scented candles in polished coconut shells, in shops throughout the island. Or stop by the workshop in St. George's to watch bay leaves and cinnamon sticks turn into hand soaps and perfumes. arawak-islands.com
