- Matt is a liveaboard sailor who travels between island destinations on the US East Coast and dreams of going even farther.
- Before sailing away, Matt worked as a professor and flight instructor, authoring several textbooks and courses.
- For many years, Matt and his family lived in Key Largo, Florida, where they enjoyed the ultimate island lifestyle.
Experience
After a successful career in higher education, Matt moved aboard his 38-foot sailboat, Dulcinea, in order to spend more time traveling. The first stop: the remote Out Islands of the Bahamas. When the summer heat and hurricane season set in, he set sail north to find islands along the US East Coast, from the Outer Banks and Chesapeake Bay to Nantucket and Maine. Arriving by boat is a unique experience; he gets to know the island lifestyle in a more personal way than other tourists. He'll often pick a destination and stay for a month or more while he gets to know the area and its residents. Matt's three favorite islands are Ocracoke, North Carolina, Vinylhaven, Maine, and Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, Bahamas.
Education
Matt holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business and aviation from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
