Travel around Southeast Asia, Movie filming locations, Exploring the hidden gems that don't make the top 10 lists
- Katie has traveled to 35 countries across four continents. In her early 20s, she worked as an English teacher in Thailand, which allowed her to explore Southeast Asia and beyond in depth. While she visited Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and more, Thailand still holds a special place in her heart.
- Combining her passions for travel and film, one of Katie's favorite things to do when visiting a new city is to check out its filming locations. Her two all-time favorites are the Angkor Thom temple in Cambodia, featured in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and Thailand's Maya Bay, the breathtaking beach seen in Leonardo DiCaprio's movie The Beach.
- Katie has written for several travel publications and was once the editor of Ireland's top independent travel website.
Experience
Katie has been writing professionally for five years, but her passion for writing began long before that. After graduating with a joint bachelor's degree in English and French in 2017, she put her experience to good use by moving to Thailand to teach English in schools. Upon returning to Ireland, Katie landed a job as the assistant editor at Ireland's largest independent travel site, quickly moving up to editor after just nine months with the company. Her work as a freelance travel writer has allowed her to combine her passions for world travel and the written word. For every city or country she explores, she loves nothing more than discovering hidden gems, sampling local food, and truly immersing herself in the culture.
Education
Katie holds a bachelor's degree in English and French from the Manchester Metropolitan University. She also holds a HNC in Film and Television Studies.
