- As a young journalist, he interviewed President Carter on the slopes of Crested Butte.
Experience
Chris is a career journalist and started as the only staffer of the now-defunct Crested Butte Mountain Sun in 1992. His work took him from the high country of Colorado to the Lost Coast of California and eventually to Idaho, where he edited the Idaho State Journal before turning to advocacy and environmental reporting – in 2004, he won the prestigious Dolly Connelly Award for Excellence in Environmental Journalism. Eventually, he turned his writing focus toward his love of travel and his passion for fly fishing. Since the early 2010s, Chris has traveled the world, often with a fly rod in hand, and he's expanded his writing repertoire to include food, wine, spirits, and culture. His byline has appeared thousands of times in dozens of newspapers and in publications ranging from The Flyfish Journal to Outdoor Life and from Hatch Magazine to The New York Times.
Education
Chris has a bachelor's degree in English from Western Colorado University.
